The Breath of Life
Pranayama Workshop Series
The breath is our constant companion throughout life. It is our most basic experience. It connects us to the world. It is usually automatic and often operates below the level of consciousness. Pranayama practice makes the breath conscious and controls it in various ways to affect the body and mind. Yoga teaches that learning to relax the breath at will, to lengthen the breath, and to control it with ratio and technique has profound beneficial effects. This series of workshops is an introduction to this science of the breath. Each workshop builds on the previous one, and daily practice between the workshops will help you to integrate what you learn and prepare for the nest step.
Breathing Basics June 22 2:00-4:00 pm
We’ll use simple movements, breathing techniques and mudras to explore and expand our breathing capacity. Emphasis will be on learning to recognize when breathing is restricted, how to relax it, and the ability to lengthen and deepen the breath. Benefits include increasing
aerobic capacity and reducing stress.
Introduction to Ratio in Pranayama July 27 2:00-4:00 pm
There are four parts to the breath in pranayama practice; inhalation, retention of the breath after inhalation, exhalation, and the suspension of the breath after exhalation. Ratio is the relationship between the length of these four parts. Using different ratios creates different effects. You will learn some classic ratios and experience the benefits. Prerequisite- Breathing Basics or permission of instructor.
Pranayama Techniques August 24 2:00-4:00 pm
Technique in pranayama refers to various ways to control the flow of the breath. This workshop will focus on alternate nostril techniques. Alternate nostril techniques affect the balance between the right and left brain hemispheres. This is an introduction to the theory and practice in using these techniques to produce the desired effects.
Prerequisite- Introduction to Ratio or permission of instructor.
Cost for the workshops is $30 each or $75 for the series.
Taught by Jeannie Turner, Certified Yoga Therapist

Nectar of Reality
Retreat on Maui February 14-21, 2009

Some of you already know the refrain of the chant which can be translated as:
Heart that lies in me
I am the nectar
Nectar of reality.
The verses of the chant teach us about the relationships that exist between natural forces and elements, and parts and functions of ourselves; and that it all arises from the Eternal Heart of Being. The refrain reminds us that we ourselves are not separate from this True Heart of Being.
The theme of this retreat is to explore and to experience those relationships as we learn this chant. We will practice chanting and silence, along with asana, pranayama, and meditation to explore the link between the earth, our bodies, our hearts, and the sweet nectar that comes from that linking.
Jeannie Turner will lead the practices. Lahar Goldberg will lead the chanting and assist in the practices, and Kathy Anderson will be available to support you in your practice.
Included in the retreat:
Two daily integrated yoga practices (which will include asana, pranyama, meditation and chanting)
